Minerals
Minerals are as important to the human body as vitamins. Remember, both vitamins and minerals are co-enzymes. And since all body functions need enzymes, all body functions need both vitamins and minerals. Without the proper amount of minerals in the body, the vitamins we consume could not even be used at all. Without minerals, the vitamins we eat (e.g., vitamin-c, vitamin-b or vitamin-e) would be worthless. Therefore, the enzymes that are used in every body process would not work!

Bulk Minerals and Trace Minerals
There are two types of minerals- bulk minerals and trace minerals. Bulk minerals are minerals we need in large amounts. Examples of bulk minerals are calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium and phosphorus. Trace minerals are minerals we need in smaller quantities. Examples of trace minerals are boron, chromium, copper, germanium, iodine, iron, manganese, molybdenum, selenium, silicon, sulfur, vanadium and zinc.

Vitamin Mineral Supplement
As with vitamins, it is difficult to obtain through a normal daily diet all the minerals necessary for optimum health. For this reason, it is often beneficial for us to take a mineral supplement. Mineral supplements come in various forms. First, we can get an all encompassing supplement called a vitamin-mineral supplement. A vitamin-mineral supplement would have many vitamins and minerals, but probably a small amount of each.

Mineral Supplement
Another option would be to take a mineral supplement composed of only minerals. Because there would be no vitamins taking up space (e.g., a vitamin-mineral supplement), a mineral supplement would typically have a greater quantity of minerals. Some mineral supplements have up to 50 minerals per serving. Others can be more specific, such as a Calcium, Magnesium and Vitamin D supplement. This type of mineral supplement would be used for a specific purpose, such as bone strength.

Colloidal Minerals
Colloidal minerals are some of the most highly digestible mineral supplements. Colloidal minerals are in liquid form (as opposed to pill form). Now do not be confused, not all liquid minerals are colloidal minerals.

Colloidal minerals are regular minerals with an amino acid attached for easier digestion. Up to 90% of liquid colloidal minerals can be digested, when, on average, only 10-15% of a pill form mineral can be digested.
